Dogs at the Tamborine Mountain Country Markets

The Management Committee of the Tamborine Mountain Country Markets is responsible for the welfare and safety of all market goers and stall holders, and for providing an environment where all can participate in the market process safely. The decision was made to refuse entry to all dogs, with the exception of appropriately identified assistance, guide and hearing dogs*, to the Tamborine Mountain Country Markets by the Management Committee of the Markets following a number of incidents involving dogs at these Markets and others. These included, but not limited to:

    1. Dog owners leaving their dogs’ faeces on the grounds.
    2. Fights have broken out between multiple dogs.
    3. Stallholder’s goods have been damaged by urinating dogs.
    4. Stalls have been knocked over by dogs chasing other dogs.
    5. Dogs have been unintentionally injured by being stepped on and tripped over.
    6. Leads tangling around the legs of market goers, causing falls.
    7. Not every member of the public likes dogs – some are very scared of dogs.

These issues pose a risk to ALL market goers, stall holders, and the dogs themselves. Like many markets on the Gold Coast and elsewhere, we have taken this step to minimise the issues mentioned above.

As dog owners ourselves, we understand the desire to take our dogs everywhere . We understand, however, that there are places we cannot and should not take our dogs, for the welfare of our dogs as much as out of respect for the place we are visiting. The Tamborine Mountain Country Markets is one of those places.

*All Certified Guide, Hearing and Assistance dogs must have their Badge on their harness or collar. Please ensure that your dog’s badge is easily visible, and that you have your Handler’s Card with you. Dogs without their badge will be treated as any other dog, and not permitted into the grounds.
